Since you’re reading this post, congratulations are in place — it means that you’re already spiritually awakened, or you’re in the process of doing so. Let me be clear, I am not congratulating you on the beginning of your spiritual journey, since it started a long time ago, but I commend you on becoming aware of the fact that you are journeying.
These days, the terms: ascension, awakening and enlightenment are being used liberally and interchangeably, mainly because as a society we still don’t have sufficient knowledge to reach a consensus on the spiritual vocabulary. So let me first clarify how I am going to use these words in my post.
Ascension — a process of spiritual growth which all consciousness is going through. (And when I say all consciousness — I mean: humans, animals, plants, planet Earth itself, other planets and their inhabitants, etc.)
Awakening — a realization that one is ascending
Enlightenment — ascension to 5D or higher dimension
This post is a simplified and summarized description of the spiritual awakening and beginning stages of ascension based on my own journey, and on the experiences my clients and my friends shared with me. This account is neither definite nor exhaustive, since ascension is a never-ending journey of consciousness. In order to make this text helpful, I will simplify and generalize the process, dividing it into dimensional stages in order to make this post a short and easy read. Please bear in mind that in real life each stage of spiritual growth is a spectrum and a part of a distinct non-linear journey of each soul, therefore during your spiritual awakening and ascension you can experience all of the below or some of them, and it can happen in a different order.
The awakening journey begins when you start to question what you and those around you believe to be true. It is often triggered by a traumatic and/or inexplicable event. You start to question your education, societal programming, your own history or even physical reality and linear time. It can happen in just one area of life, but usually there’s a domino effect to it. This stage is often described using expressions such as: a dark night of the soul, going down the rabbit hole, leaving the matrix, opening your eyes, waking from slumber, deprogramming, etc. It can be very disturbing since you become disillusioned with everything you trusted. And then it gets even more difficult since you start to question your relationships as you start to see them in a new light. Old trauma is resurfacing, bringing up painful memories. You can feel confusion, disappointment, hurt, anger, shock, disgust and other negative emotions.
This initial stage is the most difficult one, because you are still in dense 3D energies. At this point, you negate your old worldview, and you don’t know what to believe or trust. You may not even be sure what is going on with you and doubt your sanity. You can also be hurting and feel alienated, If you stay at this stage longer, your defense mechanism can kick in and cause you to experience a void and dissociation. But you need to remember that the ascension path leads through the heart — not through drama or being over emotional but through opening your heart chakra to the universal love and compassion.
It is of the utmost importance not to get stuck at this stage and to work through it ceaselessly searching for healing and light. If you can’t trust anything else at the moment, try to trust that whatever higher power brought you to this crisis will also help you throughout it. I recommend asking the higher power you believe in for help and guidance. Once you learn to trust and let go of control, things start to change quickly, and you obtain the tools to deal with your newly gained insights.
Here are some easy and accessible everyday spiritual practices which will help you: https://joannadraus.com/fundamental-spiritual-practices/
You are awakening to higher dimensions. In 4D you look for healing in the first place, because you want to ease your pain, and to understand what and why happens to you. You do your research, and you learn about past lives, energies, meditation or other aspects of spirituality you weren’t familiar with. You often feel torn between different theories, teachings and concepts.
You incorporate new spiritual practices and intensify your habitual ones — such as: meditating, grounding, doing energy work, etc. It may seem like you go through countless activations and healing sessions. It can be raw, painful and exhausting, but you are healing. And the more you heal, the quicker you ascend. This stage is often described as inner child healing and shadow work.
Finally, you start to see that you cannot grasp this newly discovered reality using the old tools — the only way to even start to understand the higher dimensions leads through your heart, feelings, intuition and energetic perception.
Once you decide to open your heart to unconditional love, you open the doors to 5D and both your healing and your ascension accelerate. You can sense that the only way forward leads through forgiveness and love. You start to see the cause and effect everywhere (previously known as karma). This leads you to understand that there are no coincidences, bad or good luck. You start to notice the synchronicities, the angel numbers, the signs, the guidance from higher realms. You begin to realize that taking radical responsibility is the only option. This stage is often described using expressions such as: heart opening, 3rd eye opening, kundalini awakening, chakras activation, etc.
As your healing progresses and your heart opens, you enter 5D. There is no clear-cut or linear shift — at first you just start to perceive 5D energies more and more often, and then you are able to stay in them for longer increments of time.
How does 5D feel? It feels good — it feels like love, peace, bliss, trust, safety, and clarity. However, it doesn’t mean your healing is over. In 5D you are not only healing our traumas from this lifetime and our past incarnations, you also get to heal our ancestral lineage and, to some extent, your future one. You also consciously connect with your Higher Self, your spiritual guidance, your Monad and the Source. You can remember your past lives, and reconnect with your spiritual gifts aka clairs. This stage is often described as: enlightenment, nirvana, or ascension.
Each dimension provides you with a new, bigger and higher perspective. If you want an example — try to imagine living in a 2D world and then moving into 3D in the physical world.
In 6D you still enjoy all the wonderful 5D qualities, and you gain a new perspective on top of that. You perceive and feel the unity and the interconnectedness of all people, which enables you to heal the collective each time you heal yourself. And then there is more — unity of all life on Earth — feeling and communicating with animals and plants. And then the unity with the planet itself — with its soil, its waters, its rocks and its atmosphere. And finally unity with all other planets and beings in the universe. In 6D you get closer to the angelic beings, the Ascended Masters, the goddesses and gods, and you get not only to communicate but also to collaborate with them.
And obviously 6D is not the end…. It’s just the beginning.
Good morning Joann,
I loved your description of the awakening process. It was beautifully articulated.
I am launching a podcast called “ In stillness we awake”. I would love to have you on as a guest to talk about awakening and what you do. I’m in michigan, but we can do it remotely.
